Can Implantation Bleeding Be Heavy? Truth Unraveled

By  0 Comments

Wondering how heavy is implantation bleeding? As against medium to light bleeding, there are some instances when heavy implantation bleeding is present. This type of bleeding can be as heavy as a normal period but lasting for only a day or two. However, heavy implantation bleeding that lasts for more than two to three days can be an alarming symptom.

Understanding The Process Of Implantation Bleeding

Implantation bleeding implies the outflow of blood through the vagina after being discarded by the uterus while implanting a fertilized egg. During the time of your monthly menses, the ovulation process takes place. This causes the ovary to emit eggs. When a sperm enters a woman’s body a few days after her last menses, a specific egg gets fertilized. This fertilized egg then tends to find its way to access the uterine lining. This lining will act as a home for this egg where it is nurtured and taken care of. The lining is nurtured with nutrients and blood of which the uterus lining is made up of. After reaching the uterus, a fertilized egg gets implanted there. This causes a negligible amount of blood loss to take place from the lining.

Can Implantation Bleeding Be Heavy?

Concerned if heavy implantation bleeding is a normal process? Well logically speaking, since the egg size is really minimal, the quantity of blood that is removed tends to be really so scanty that most women may not even be able to spot it. In most cases, this type of spotting is mostly light to medium in flow and the color is either brownish or pinkish in color. Also in majority instances, a woman may only notice one spot or a few drops of blood. In other words, normal implantation bleeding does not appear as heavy as a normal period. Moreover, it is not necessary that every time you get pregnant, you will experience implantation bleeding.

Alarming Symptoms Causing Heavy Implantation Bleeding

Heavy implantation bleeding that has been occurring for several days can be an alarming sign. You should be alerted to the fact that heavy bleeding that is accompanied by severe cramps, may indicate that you are a victim of early ectopic pregnancy. However, ectopic pregnancy is also characterized by other symptoms such as dizziness, shoulder aches, blood clots and pelvic pain. In this pregnancy, the egg attaches itself to the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. In rare cases, it can also attach itself to the ovary, cervix or the stomach. A gynecologist must be consulted for immediate treatment. This condition causes heavy implantation bleeding that is likely to occur with other painful symptoms. These signs are likely to prevail for a minimum of four days or more and calls for a doctor’s visit.

Remember, whenever you spot this type of bleeding, it tends to occur for few minutes, a couple of hours, a day or a maximum of three days. In a few rare instances when the bleeding lasts for three days or more, there is no cause for worry especially when it is light in flow and pinkish in discharge.
